Tucked between the Chesapeake Bay and Willoughby Bay, Willoughby Spit is a quiet, quirky peninsula in Norfolk with a charm all its own. This relaxed waterfront community is known for its stretch of uncrowded, sandy beaches, where locals and visitors alike stroll with coffee at sunrise and gather for golden-hour swims. You’ll find a mix of classic beach cottages, salty shacks, and new builds, all steps from the shore. Willoughby locals are fiercely loyal to their slice of coastal life — where crab traps are common yard décor, beach chairs stay out year-round, and everyone knows the best spot for a fried shrimp basket (hint: it’s probably across the street at the Willoughby Fish House).

We are looking forward to hosting you but there are a few things you need to do in order to make sure that you, and all of our guests, are safe and that everyone can enjoy their respective stays! This message also includes other useful information about pets, baby gear and parking:
1) Our properties are protected by Truvi. Please note that if you book a short-term rental (under 30 days), you will be contacted by Truvi directly to verify yourself. Please make sure this is completed prior to check-in.
2) Please confirm that you accept the following House Rules and Responsibilities on behalf of yourself and guests. A violation of the House Rules can result in an immediate termination of your reservation without refund.
For the comfort of our guests, residents and members of the Sojourn team, smoking of any kind (marijuana, cigarettes, or vaping) is not permitted anywhere in the interior of our building or within fifty (50) feet of our building, including outdoor spaces. Should our team or neighbors report the odor of smoke we will contact the booking service, terminate your stay, claim any and all damages, including but not limited to a $500 smoking fee, and post the appropriate review.
Parties and events are strictly prohibited. All Sojourn homes are equipped with noise monitoring devices (decibel readers), your privacy is safe however, noise levels exceeding normal levels are grounds for ending your stay and are strictly enforced. In the event we are notified of any excess noise, music, gathering or parties a Sojourn representative will respond and your reservation will be terminated without refund. Please also note that all Sojourn buildings and homes are equipped with some type of exterior camera that records the exterior and common areas to include all entries to the building.
What NOT to Flush Down the Toilet or put down drains or in the garbage disposal - If found that these cause plumbing issues Sojourn can and will charge the guest.

3) If you are booking a flat that allows pets the pet fee is $75 per pet per week. This only applies to pet friendly listings.
4) We are happy to provide both a Pack and Play and/or high chair. These must be reserved in advance and a $25 rental fee will be charged.
5) Fireworks are illegal in Norfolk, any use of fireworks is grounds for immediate termination of your stay with no refund.
Please note that neither Sojourn nor the property owner shall be held liable for any loss, theft, damage, or injury to the vehicle or any personal property therein, nor for any injury to the driver, passengers, or any other person, arising out of or in connection with the use of the parking space. Any use of the parking space is at the sole risk of the vehicle owner or driver. Neither Sojourn nor the owner guarantee the safety or security of any vehicle parked in the parking space and disclaims any responsibility for any acts of theft, vandalism, or other criminal activity.
6)The Airbnb beach essentials links indicated that snorkeling equipment is a beach essential, we do not provide snorkeling equipment.
8) There may be times where the home needs unexpected, or scheduled preventative maintenance. While we do our best not to interrupt your stay with us, sometimes this cannot be avoided thus Sojourn reserves the right to gain access to the properties at any time, after providing our guests with 24 hour written notice.
9)The City of Norfolk will begin a sand replacement project on Toler Place and Willoughby Beach (from 11th View St to the terminal groin) in response to significant erosion from recent high tides. Work will take place Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, beginning in late May 2025 and continuing through late July 2025. You will have to use the beach from 11th Bay and down to enjoy the beach.
Please be aware that the impacted section of the beach will be closed during work hours but will reopen in the evenings and on weekends. Alternate access to the beach is available via 11th View St and other nearby entry points.

Host was very responsive. The place was nice it just had a mildew smell inside. Walls were pretty thin so you hear everything. Overall it was a good stay and had everything I needed. Seleena

Upon arrival, it was slightly difficult to find our parking because someone else had parked in our spot. When entering the building there were cigarette buds and ashes all over the front steps. There was a lot of debris in the entryway. Once entering the unit it immediately smelled of mildew. The AC was on, however the scent was quite potent in the living room area. When entering the rooms there were slight hints of mildew especially in the secondary room on the right. The reason it was such an issue was because my mom has a severe allergy to mildew. When checking the closets she did spot a roach. When we did call they did do everything they could to make the issue better, providing us with 3 additional options, however, the roaches were a continued issue in all. They did apologize, they provided a refund, and they also stated they would look into pest control and cleaning the first unit. I do not want to discourage anyone, just wasn't our choice of location. Ein paar Tage vor Anreise haben wir ein Upgrade von einem auf zwei Schlafzimmer bekommen. Gebucht hatten wir eine kleinere Unterkunft im gleichen Gebäude.
Wir sind am Anreisetag spät angekommen und haben danach nur die Abende in der Unterkunft verbracht. Die Unterkunft entspricht den Bildern, alles neu und modern und ansprechend eingerichtet. Bei Ankunft ist uns ein etwas komischer Geruch entgegen gekommen, das könnte von der Feuchtigkeit kommen. Die Unterkunft ist sehr hellhörig, man hört jeden Schritt in der Wohnung über einem. Zu den Schlafenszeiten war es aber fast immer ruhig, so dass man hier nicht/ kaum gestört wurde. Das WiFi ist leider sehr schwach, streamen oder arbeiten am Laptop ist daher kaum möglich. Die generelle Sauberkeit war gegeben, allerdings der Boden etwas krümelig. Wir reisen mit Baby und haben dann selbst gesaugt. Die Lage der Unterkunft ist super, man ist direkt am Wasser und schnell in alle Richtungen unterwegs für Unternehmungen.
