By day, the neighborhood is buzzing with everyone from senators and Supreme Court justices to law clerks and Capitol Hill staffers as they go about the business of making and interpreting the laws. By night, the architecturally iconic neighborhood has made a name for itself as a focal point for culinary genius, with a number of nationally famous restaurants calling it home. On Capitol Hill, foodies will find one of DC’s most celebrated chefs, along with a stretch of must-try restaurants along Barracks Row.
Capitol Hill is one of the city’s most popular places to live, with 19th-century row houses and a market plus a vibrant nightlife and dining scene. Politicos, young staffers and tourists alike head to the neighborhood both for its government buildings like the U.S. Capitol and the Supreme Court and the surrounding historic, walkable, restaurant-filled blocks.
Tour the U.S. Capitol via its impressive visitors center, where guides lead small groups under the intricately painted, 180-plus-foot dome and past the dimly lit Old Supreme Court Chamber. You’ll need a reservation for the tour or to visit Congress or the Senate (when they are in session); for the latter, just contact your senator or house representative. Nearby, the Library of Congress' impressive 1897 Thomas Jefferson building is open for tours that reveal its Italian-Renaissance style architecture and gilt murals, plus the stunning, circular main reading room with its 160-foot-high ceiling. Other attractions include the Folger Shakespeare Library (the world’s largest collection of the author's timeless works), and the glassed-in U.S. Botanic Garden at the base of Capitol Hill, which holds palms, ferns and orchids and provides a peaceful escape.
Nineteenth and early 20th-century row houses (think turrets, stained glass and ironwork) lead to throwback commercial zones. Eastern Market, an 1873 brick building houses grocers, bakers and pasta makers inside every day except Monday, as well as a lively weekend bazaar with produce, crafts and antiques. The nearby micro-neighborhood of Barracks Row centers on 8th Street SE, where vintage storefronts hold oyster houses, pubby bars and foodie-focused restaurants. Closer to the Capitol, Massachusetts Avenue NE has multiple restaurants and longtime watering holes.

Very nicely appointed space. Great communication and quickly responsive. Very clean. Private and quiet space and neighborhood. Neighborhood requires residential permit to park on street, so the added fee for a parking space - while nominal - felt unreasonable as the backyard parking space otherwise sits empty unless you pay. A more reasonable approach - given the residential permit need - would be to not nickel-and-dime you for the parking spot, especially given the cost of the rental. There are 2 bedrooms and one sleeping area with a sofa bed. Neither bedroom has a television. The sofa bed area has a tv, but neither bedroom has a television. If you are a tv-sleeper, this is not a great setup. There is also no tv on the 2nd floor where the kitchen / living room is. The space where the neon sign hangs would be far better utilized with a television, given that it is the main common area for the residence. Overall a very comfortable stay and well-appointed. Price was high. I was looking forward to staying at this location but there were other occupants that hadn't left. We even connected with the property beforehand and they told us the place was being cleaned because we'd asked for early check-in. Knowing that the other occupants hadn't left was a huge safety concern for me and guests. Other than that it was a beautiful property. It did have a slight odor but we were able to stay because they didn't ensure the previous guests had left Our family of 4 adults stayed in this charming townhouse for a spring weekend and loved it. It suited our needs perfectly and was very homey.
The backyard patio is a big bonus, although we couldn't enjoy it because of rain.
The included parking spot was also most welcome.
This property actually consists of 2 separate units, which afforded lots of privacy while allowing together time in the larger space.
The place was spotless and though we didn't do any cooking, the kitchens were well-appointed.
Being a townhouse, be prepared for a lot of stairs, which were fairly easy to navigate for this older couple with the aid of a sturdy banister.
The host was extremely responsive and clear with instructions. No question or concern was deemed too minor or inconsequential.
The only thing to add is that we didn't find a sofa bed in either living room. Instead, it was in the third bedroom on the upmost level. This wasn't a problem, but the description said there was a queen bed there.
